ORDER 66: SURVIVORS & VICTIMS

The Order 66 scandal. For fans of the franchise, it marks the start of the Great Jedi Purge.

It also signals the fall of the Clone Wars. This is the beginning of the end for the Jedi Order and the rise of the Galactic Empire. Numerous Jedi, including Padawans, Younglings, Jedi Masters, and Jedi Knights, lost their lives as a result of star wars Order 66.

However, precisely what was Order 66? Who among the survivors of Order 66 was it? We'll examine some of the most prominent Jedi who survived Order 66 and provide answers to these and other topics.

WHAT IS ORDER 66?

Order 66 commanded all clone troopers to execute the Jedi. This order was given because the Jedi were seen as betraying the Galactic Republic in the Star Wars universe.

Order 66 had a hidden purpose. Only Chancellor Palpatine knew it.

He was also the Sith Lord Darth Sidious. His partner, Count Dooku, was aware of it too. It marked the start of the "Great Jedi Purge," which aimed to abolish the Jedi Order and establish the Sith Empire.

Dooku had the cloners on Kamino put a special chip in each clone. This chip let them follow "Clone Protocol 66" with voice commands. This led to Order 66 being carried out.

The Kaminoans thought that this was merely a backup plan against renegade Jedi. After discovering that a Jedi was a Sith Lord, many Jedi Masters, at Mace Windu's request, planned to arrest him. This gave Palpatine the chance to make the Jedi look like traitors to the public.

Palpatine might say, "Execute Order 66." This command activates the biochip in the clone troopers. The chip takes away their free will.

It makes them loyal to Palpatine. They now want to kill the "traitorous" Jedi. Despite their overall success, there are a few confirmed Order 66 survivors in Star Wars canon.

Order 66 first appears in Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith. However, The Clone Wars provides more background and context about it. During the Clone Wars, a faulty chip in the clone trooper named Tup caused Order 66 to start too early. This led to the death of Jedi Master Templar.

"Fives," a clone and Tup's pal, conducted research and almost discovered the Order 66 conspiracy. Palpatine set up Fives. This caused the Coruscant Guard to kill him. They did this before he could tell Anakin Skywalker and Clone Captain Rex the truth.

WHAT JEDI SURVIVED ORDER 66?

As previously stated, some of the most significant figures in Star Wars mythology were among the Order 66 survivors. The following is a certified list of Jedi who survived Order 66 in the canon of today, but it is by no means complete:

  • Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi
  • Jedi Master Yoda
  • Ahsoka Tano
  • Padawan Caleb Dume (later known as Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus)
  • Padawan Cal Kestis
  • Padawan Reva Sevander (later known as The Third Sister)
  • The Grand Inquisitor (a Jedi Temple Guard)
  • The Seventh Sister
  • The Fifth Brother
  • Jedi Master Luminara Unduli
  • Jedi Master Jocasta Nu
  • Jedi Master Kirak Infil’a
  • Jedi Master Coleman Kcaj
  • Jedi Master Taron Malicos
  • Jedi Master Quinlan Vos
  • Jedi Master Uvell
  • Jedi Knight Cere Junda
  • Padawan Ferren Barr
  • Padawan Trilla Suduri (later The Second Sister)
  • Naq Med
  • Zubain Ankonori
  • Nuhj
  • Masana Tide
  • Mususiel
  • Ka-Moon Kholi
  • Chandra
  • Selrahc Eluos
  • Grogu

This may seem like a lot, but remember that Order 66 killed thousands of Jedi. Even if more Jedi are found, the total will still be small. Regarding our discussion of Order 66 survivors, we're staying according to canon. While some Jedi, like Obi-Wan and Yoda, survived Order 66, legends gave a separate list of those who did not.

THE TOP 10 JEDI WHO SURVIVED ORDER 66

Even though each Order 66 survivor has a unique story to share, some are unquestionably crucial to the Star Wars canon. The top ten Jedi who survived Order 66 are listed below:

OBI-WAN KENOBI

Clone troopers who had just received Order 66 targeted Obi-Wan Kenobi shortly after he had defeated General Grievous. By this time, he had become a Jedi Master and was seated on the Jedi Council. He was on a cliff when he was blasted off a varactyl, and the clones thought he drowned when he fell into the water.

But Obi-Wan, being the excellent Jedi he was, managed to escape. With Bail Organa's help, he saw Master Yoda at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. He then warned all surviving Jedi from Order 66 not to come to Coruscant. Sadly, a lot of them had already fallen.

After Anakin Skywalker, now called Darth Vader, defeated him in a duel on Mustafar, Obi-Wan fled to Tatooine. There, he lived in exile and watched over Vader's son, Luke Skywalker. At the same time, the galaxy awaited the arrival of A New Hope.

YODA

It would help if you never judged someone by their size. Jedi Master Yoda is yet another crucial survivor of Order 66. Order 66 was carried out while supporting the Wookiees on Kashyyyk during the Clone Wars. Fortunately, Yoda could eliminate the clones after sensing their threat and stopping them before they could shoot him in the rear.

Before getting away, he assisted Obi-Wan in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. He lived in lonely exile on the marshy planet Dagobah until Luke, the man he taught to become a Jedi Knight, visited him (as seen in Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back).

AHSOKA TANO (AND MAUL)

Ahsoka Tano is arguably one of the most fascinating characters in the Star Wars universe, even outside the films. She is also one of the most significant characters to have escaped star wars Order 66.

During the Siege of Mandalore, Ahsoka and the 332nd Division supported Bo-Katan Kryze and the Mandalorean resistance. Afterward, they boarded a Republic vessel to Coruscant. They were carrying the rebel Sith lord Maul, who had overthrown the Mandalorian government and been taken into custody by Republic forces.

Order 66 was activated this time, and Ahsoka had to dodge blaster blasts from her dear friend, Clone Commander Rex. Even though neither Ahsoka nor the prisoner Maul were Jedi in theory, the clone soldiers attacked them.

Ahsoka released Maul from captivity, hoping his presence would divert the clones' attention while anarchy broke out throughout the ship. As Maul engaged in combat with the clone soldiers, Ahsoka captured Rex and extracted the inhibitor chip from his skull.

While the other clones looked for Ahsoka, their spacecraft began to break apart and fall toward a nearby moon. Ahsoka and Rex survived the accident. They got on a shuttle to escape. Sadly, Maul and the rest of the 332nd died.

Following the interment of the deceased, Ahsoka and Rex staged their deaths and fled. Ahsoka reappears in The Mandalorian, and her tale will shortly be expanded in the Ahsoka TV spinoff.

KANAN JARRUS (CALEB DUME)

Order 66 was put into action while Caleb Dume and his master, Depa Billaba, were on a mission. They were accompanied by Clone Force 99, also known as "The Bad Batch." Caleb escaped thanks to Depa Billaba's efforts, a few clever falsehoods from The Bad Batch's Hunter, and later assistance from the rehabilitated clone "Grey."

We see him again in Star Wars: Rebels. He is now Kanan Jarrus, a Jedi Knight. He teaches a young boy named Ezra Bridger about the Force.

THE GRAND INQUISITOR

When Order 66 took effect in Padawan, Caleb Dume was traveling with his master, Depa Billaba, and Clone Force 99 (also known as "The Bad Batch"; more about them later). Caleb managed to escape thanks to the combined efforts of Depa Billaba, The Bad Batch's Hunter, and the eventual intervention of the rehabilitated clone "Grey."

Kanan Jarrus becomes a Jedi Knight in Star Wars: Rebels. He helps start the Rebellion and teaches a young boy named Ezra Bridger about the Force.

THE SEVENTH SISTER

Some members of Inquisitorius, such as the Seventh Sister, were Jedi. They turned to the Dark Side after surviving Order 66. The Seventh Sister, a character in Star Wars: Rebels, helped the Grand Inquisitor by searching for Ahsoka Tano. She was an important rival in the story.

THE FIFTH BROTHER

The Fifth Brother was the appellation given to another unidentified fallen Jedi who lived through Order 66. The famous Seventh Sister and Fifth Brother are on this list because they were a big threat in Star Wars: Rebels. Other important Inquisitorius members exist too, like the Second Sister, Trilla Suduri, from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

CAL KESTIS

The main character of Jedi: Fallen Order is Cal Kestis. He was a Padawan who escaped after his master, Jaro Topal, sacrificed himself to save him. After meeting Cere Junda, a fellow Order 66 survivor and Trilla Suduri's old master, he is saved from the Inquisitors.

LUMINARA UNDULI

The Grand Inquisitor takes Jedi Master Luminara Unduli prisoner after escaping Order 66, and he tortures and kills her. To entice other Order 66 survivors, the Empire planted false reports that she was still alive and retained her remains.

JOCASTA NU

One Jedi who survived Order 66 was a humble librarian. He worked in the archives at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. She escaped into hiding to use her skills to teach a new Jedi Order. However, Darth Vader and the Grand Inquisitor found her and killed her.

WHO FELL DURING ORDER 66?

Order 66 resulted in the execution of a significant number of Jedi.Numerous thousands. Though it would be hard to list them all, casualties have included Ki-Adi-Mundi, Plo Koon, Shaak Ti, and other well-known Jedi Council members. For the most part, the Great Jedi Purge that ensued was successful.

The galaxy itself was the greatest casualty of Order 66. As the Republic fell, the Sith-controlled Empire took power to loud applause. The Jedi Council, despite its many flaws, could no longer keep peace or stop the rise of an authoritarian rule.

Palpatine reached his goal with Order 66. He wanted to bring back Sith rule. He gained power and became Emperor of the new Galactic Empire. He used clever tricks during the war to do this.

DID ANY YOUNGLINGS SURVIVE ORDER 66?

Some star wars Younglings, like the unnamed Rodian from Jedi: Fallen Order, survived Order 66. The most famous survivor is Grogu, also known as "The Child." However, many Younglings lost their lives as a result of Order 66, many of them being killed by Anakin Skywalker (who had by then assumed the persona of Darth Vader).

WERE THERE ANY CLONES THAT DISOBEYED ORDER 66?

The genetic issues in Clone Force 99's biochips made them less effective, allowing them to resist Order 66. The clone dubbed "Crosshair" was the exception. Captain Rex was a clone who also disobeyed; Ahsoka Tano removed his biochip, and he later joined the Rebel Alliance.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CLONES AFTER ORDER 66?

The war ended shortly after Order 66 was executed. The surviving clone troopers became the first Imperial stormtroopers.

They enforced the Emperor's rules in the new Galactic Empire. They also crushed anyone who challenged his power. Because of their biochips, these clones lost most of their autonomy and free will and instead became utterly submissive.

Clones were eventually phased out of the Imperial Military in favor of recruits and conscripts after Kamino's clone production stopped. A few clones, like "Grey," who gave his life to save Captain Rex and Caleb Dume, gradually recovered their sense of self and felt bad about what they had done.
