Kylo Ren's Lightsaber Fights
Due in large part to his proficiency with a lightsaber, Kylo Ren is unquestionably one of the most memorable and dynamic characters presented in the third Star Wars trilogy. There was a lot of action on screen with that unique cross-guard lightsaber, which contributed to some particularly striking scenes. The lightsaber encounters involving this legendary First Order leader, who later returned to the light side, are summarized chronologically below.
Finn Vs. Kylo Ren (The Force Awakens)
The First Order commander is aware of the fact that Ren encounters a vengeful Finn in a snowy woodland, who also happens to be brandishing the galaxy's most famous lightsaber. Despite Finn's heroic efforts to protect Rey—including a glancing strike at one point—Ren eventually manages to knock him out.
Rey Vs. Kylo Ren (The Force Awakens)
Ren tries to pick up the abandoned Skywalker lightsaber after defeating Finn, but it flies into Rey's hands instead. The two engage in a furious saber combat. Rey is immediately placed on the defensive by Ren, who forces her to go farther into the forest and to the edge of a cliff. Rey, however, fights back using the Force. She disarms him and strikes him, leaving a horrible scar on his face. Ren will undoubtedly never forget his first lightsaber battle defeat.
Rey and Kylo Vs. Praetorian Guards (The Last Jedi)
Ren quickly joins forces with Rey to battle the Elite Praetorian Guards, who had just witnessed their boss's summary death after skewering Supreme Leader Snoke with a lightsaber. Ren is playing well here, repelling several guards at once, but after dropping his cross-guard lightsaber, he has to rely on help from Rey.
Luke Vs. Kylo Ren (The Last Jedi)
Kylo Ren eventually has the chance to face his uncle Luke Skywalker at the Battle of Crait. Ren, charging quickly with his lightsaber, slashes cleanly through Luke, who turns out to be a projected hologram meant to divert the First Order and allow the Resistance to flee, ending the ensuing combat on a level, salt-covered field.
Kylo Ren Vs. Rey on Kijimi (The Rise of Skywalker)
Wearing a mask, Kylo Ren and Rey engage in a strange Force-related conflict in which they are physically in two different locations. Ren is obviously in charge of the combat, skillfully sidestepping Rey's blows and taking advantage of the situation to play some games of psychological manipulation with his opponent by making her face some upsetting realities about her past.
Kylo Ren and Rey on the Second Death Star (The Rise of Skywalker)
When Ren encounters Rey in the partially submerged ruins of the second Death Star, he skillfully dodges her slashing lightsaber via bobs and weaves before drawing his blade. Both competitors use the Force to execute some fantastic jumps and blocks throughout their fierce encounter. Ren wins the battle against a visibly exhausted Rey, but he loses it and nearly dies as a result of becoming preoccupied with his mother, Leia Organa's final thoughts. As Kylo Ren, it turns out to be the final duel he will ever engage in.
Kylo Ren Vs. Knights of Ren (The Rise of Skywalker)
In the Sith Citadel of Emperor Palpatine, Ren—now Ben Solo, having recently reclaimed his birth identity—is ambushed by his once allies, the Knights of Ren, while he is looking for Rey. Ben Solo, armed only with the Force and a blaster, is banged around a little before Rey hands him the fabled Skywalker lightsaber. He then goes on to destroy the Knights, even performing some acrobatic feats.
