Lightsaber Colors - Top 10 Explained

The lightsaber is unquestionably the most well-known of the rare weapons that stand out among the white noise of blasters, lasers, and the like in all of science fiction. These illuminating swords are the ideal fusion of style, technology, and tradition; they bring the ancient samurai customs and the romance and bravery of Arthur and his knights into the futuristic (I know it was "A long time ago") Star Wars world. Even the sound is recognizable. Nobody in the world can help but smile when you play the scene with the sound of a light sword exploding.

Each Jedi or Sith creates their weapon as part of their training, which adds to the weapon type's technical elegance and historical significance. These weapons aren't sold in your neighborhood spaceport. Yes, there may be one or two floating around after a Jedi or Sith is murdered, but the maker must be holding the handle in order to utilize this weapon fully.

What gives the sabers their color, however, may be unknown to even the most ardent aficionados. We are aware that red is typically associated with bad guys and blue and green with nice guys, but do you know why? Compared to the Sith, the Jedi go through a slightly different procedure. The Jedi and the weapon have a more mutually beneficial relationship, but the Sith either manufacture a synthetic version of the crystal or take a real one and make it "bleed."

To create the saber, a Jedi must locate and form a bond with a Kyber crystal, which is then incorporated into the weapon. Typically, Kyber crystals are transparent, but as the Jedi and the weapon form a relationship, the weapon's color changes depending on the individual's characteristics. For the Jedi council and anybody else who understands what they mean, the color of the saber conveys a lot about that Jedi. Would they be a better warrior? A diplomat? What is the maker's relationship to the Force?

You can now recognize and comprehend the significance of each of the ten lightsaber colors, even if you are not a member of the Jedi Council.

1. Red

For good reason, Jedi never use red lightsabers. Because they are living things, kyber crystals may feel pain. Instead of using a voluntary relationship, Dark Side users force red light-sabers through the pain of the crystals; this procedure is known as "bleeding" and is disapproved of by the Jedi. Following Darth Bane's implementation of the Rule of Two, Sith masters and trainees were easily recognized by their crimson light-sabers.

Lord Tyrannus, Darth Sidious, Darth Vader, and Darth Maul are all brandish red-light swords. Even though Kylo Ren isn't a Sith, she chose the Dark Side over the Jedi and carried a red lightsaber.

2. Bronze

As Blowback, Chewbacca's nephew, enrolled in Luke Skywalker's Jedi Academy in the Young Jedi Knights book series, he searched the Jedi Temple on Yavne 4 for four computer components, one of which included an enhancement jewel that he used in lieu of the Kyber crystal.

3. Magenta

The magenta lightsaber is one of the colors added to Star Wars Legends that aren't in the original movies. Before receiving the blue one from Luke Sky walkers, Mara Jade used one of these.

She used a special crystal that Emperor Palpatine had given her in exchange for her services as Emperor's Hand to make her pink saber. Following the Battle of Endor, she lost the blade in a duel. When she became a member of the Jedi Order, she became a Jedi Knight after creating a purple one.

4. Orange

In the Lucas Arts video games Star Wars: Dark Forces and Star Wars: Jedi Knight—Dark Forces II, the protagonist, Kyle Katan, trains to become a Jedi Knight and uses an orange lightsaber he stole from the Dark Jedi Yun.

The main character, Kyle Katan, defected from the Empire and joined the Rebel Alliance in the Lucas arts video games Star Wars: Dark Forces and Star Wars: Jedi Knight - Dark Forces II. Fans may recall these games. With a deep affinity for the Force, the former Imperial agent eventually learns to become a Jedi in between his clandestine anti-Empire missions.

The Mandalorian Knights in the comic book miniseries Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: War use the same color.

5. Black

There is just one known black light sword, known as the Dark sabre. It was Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian taken into the Jedi Order. It featured a flat, curved plasma blade that resembled a conventional saber. It has the unique power to attract a light-saber attack to itself, making it nearly hard for a Jedi to strike the blade's wielder. It is a solid form rather than an energy beam.

This weapon allowed Vizsla to rise to the position of Mandator, the highest authority of his home world. The Jedi Temple was supposed to hold onto the Dark sabre after his death until House Vizsla members came looking for it.

6. Yellow

The Jedi Sentinel typically uses yellow blades, which are among the rarest colors among Jedi. After Jedi Knighthood, the Sentinel path was available, and those who followed it realized that not all issues could be resolved by applying the Force. Although they were only used as Jedi Temple Guards, their practical expertise, street smarts, and other-like abilities made them superb spies.

Although they weren't their dominant colors, Jedi Master Plow Koon, Ahsoka Tano, and Rey Skywalker all occasionally wielded yellow lightsabers.

7. Blue

These are the Jedi Order's most popular light swords. A blue lightsaber was created and used by Ezra Bridger, Luke Skywalker (at least initially), Anakin Skywalker, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Jedi Guardians typically wield blue lightsabers. They protect the order itself against threats from the outside. Known for engaging in and winning more duels than any other group of Jedi, these individuals are the most skilled in Jedi martial arts.

8. Purple

The purple lightsaber, which is rarer than other colors, denotes a Jedi who has trained all the way to the brink of the Dark Side without going inside or becoming corrupted by it. Because the Form VII lightsaber combat technique necessitates a close approach to the dark side, few Jedi possess the strength to learn and perform it.

However, Jedi Master Mace Windu was powerful enough to practice in this manner, as demonstrated by his purple lightsaber.

9. White

Although references to the employment of white lightsabers dating back to the High Republic Era are unnamed, one character is known to have wielded one. Upon her departure from the Jedi Order, Ahsoka Tano was forced to surrender her two green light-sabers. On the agricultural moon Rada, she subsequently met a Sixth Brother of the Inquisitorial, and she made her white lightsabers out of his red ones. As shown in Star Wars: Rebels and The Mandalorian Season 2, she brought the Kyber crystals back to their natural clear form.

10. Green

It is common for individuals with a strong Living Force connection to bring out the green in a light sword. Following their Jedi Knighthood, many of these went on to become Jedi Consular. The Living Force (beyond the ordinary Force) gave them a heightened sense of perspective, which includes a strong mindfulness of the energy flow of living things around them.

Master Yoda and Qi-Gon both used green light sabers, and Luke Skywalker used one as his second weapon.
